SDP Speaks

Second Draft Press is starting up a monthly reading series and is excited for the first event to take place at the wonderful Volumes Bookcafe.

Free Admission!

Our readers this month are Robin Reid Drake, Jazzy Smith, haydée "hr" souffrant, and mica woods.

robin reid drake is a white, queer, non-binary poet, artist and educator from that great vale of humility between two hills of conceit. They hold an MFA in writing from SAIC, and they. will. pay. for it. Their work is published or forthcoming in Yale's Palimpsest volume IX, WUSSY magazine, Assaracus and the anthology If You Can Hear This: Poems in Protest of an American Inauguration; and they are the recipient of a 2019 Ragdale Residency. Their collaborative work with slug sister Jazzy Smith has shown topping the work of Apichetpong Weerasethakul in the Chicago's Sullivan Galleries and is trying to cum to a swamp near you.

Blown from the Las Vegas desert to the West Coast, to Chicago (her home), Jazzy writes and films. She went to schools for things. jazzysmith.com can tell you more. Public education and the middle class are disappearing and those are big problems. Jazzy isn't interested in ways we have to show off class to be validated, like listing off publications or what degrees we have. Not interested. She strongly prefers to see your ripped jeans and sagging tits and wants to know what material you put on your skin when you're sad.

haydée "hr" souffrant is a Chicago-based Haitian American writer and artist-healer whose work weaves cultural memory through storytelling and performance. hr's literary work has been featured in numerous online literary and print publications at Oberlin College, Hair Trigger Issue 41, Sixty Inches from Center while her performance work featured at The Whitney Biennale under the Dance Diaspora Collective, Links Hall @ Constellation, Threewalls at Navy Pier and other venues in and around Chicagoland.

mica woods is a radical sentimentalist, Whole Foods barmaid, and actual maid. Hire her hello. They were awarded the Merril Moore Prize for Poetry from Vanderbilt University. Some of her is available aoon or now at BOAAT, Requited, The Wanderer, Juked, Palimpsest, and DIAGRAM.
